Most people think chiropractic is for neck pain or back pain or headaches. They don’t think about how the rest of the body is affected when we
give adjustments to the spine.
Dr. Austin and her staff at Tri-State North Chiropractic Clinic are passionate about helping the people of Chattanooga live truly healthy lives. “My goal for patients isn’t just to get them out of pain; it’s to get them healthy again. People could be walking around pain-free, but pain-free doesn’t equal healthy,” says Dr. Austin.
“Most people think chiropractic is for neck pain or back pain or headaches. They don’t think about how the rest of the body is affected when we give adjustments to the spine. The nervous system controls everything in the body — every single organ,” she says.
For example, Mrs. Lana Lawrence, a patient at Tri-State Clinic, was having trouble breathing. “She couldn’t get up the steps at work,” Dr. Austin says. But the results from visiting Dr. Austin just two times completely renewed her life. “After just two adjustments, I could breathe much better. Because of chiropractic, I have a better quality of life. Now I can play with my grandson, go to work, and volunteer. I would never have been able to do all this if I took medicine and spent my time going to the medical doctor,” says Mrs. Lawrence.
What exactly makes Dr. Austin’s treatment so unique and effective? Getting right to the root of the problem. “We ask the question ‘why?’ all the time. We treat the subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae) which may be the underlying cause of symptoms,” she says.
For Mrs. Lawrence, finding an effective alternative to traditional medicine was important due to the experiences she had caring for both her ill husband and mother. “I was a caregiver for both my husband and mother,” she says. “My husband was diagnosed with diabetes, congestive heart failure, hearing loss and had a five-way bi-pass! He took over 30 medications a day to help him prolong his life, but he had no real quality of life for years. My mother was diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes, and dementia, and she had extreme pain in her back. She took a number of meds, and it really didn’t help her pain. Because of my experience, I wasn’t sold on the promise that medicine is helpful.”
Chiropractic care is the perfect solution for people like Mrs. Lawrence — and Dr. Austin wants to get to the bottom of what is really wrong and offer long-term help and prevention. “You might have some shoulder pain, but what else is going on? What medication are you taking every day? What’s causing that pain?” she asks. “We can likely help you with that. Chiropractic treatment can help many deeper issues in the body.”
Tri-State Clinic’s mission is to help people like Mrs. Lawrence achieve true health and change their lives, as Dr. Austin feels she has been called to do, by educating the community and promoting health. “People have an option with us that’s all-natural with no side effects. And, when you think about comparative costs, it’s very inexpensive health care. Our essence here is to help people live healthier, more productive lives.
