Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is chiropractic effective?

Several decades’ worth of scientific data has shown that chiropractic treatments can have a positive impact on many different spine-related issues and your commitment to getting well.. Individuals with conditions as diverse as neck pain, migraine headaches, or weight issues have found significant relief through chiropractic care often more successful than treatments by other means.

As the evidence grows, other medical practitioners and specialists are now beginning to partner with chiropractors in treating patients with health issues involving the spine.

What types of patients and physical issues benefit from chiropractic care?

The effects of aging, injury, or repetitive activities can take their toll on a person’s health. Spinal problems in particular can cascade into pain, limited mobility, or other dysfunction in many parts of the body like the neck, back, or joints.

For some, chiropractic care helps to significantly relieve symptoms after a series of treatment sessions. For others, regular chiropractic visits play a preventative role by helping maintain proper spinal alignment.

What does it take to become a chiropractor?

Like other advanced healthcare professionals, chiropractic students undertake rigorous educational training to earn their doctorate. Before beginning their professional practice, today’s chiropractor must first earn an accredited undergraduate degree, followed by an extensive educational program of at least 4,500 hours of medical classroom studies, clinical experience, and internship training.

How do chiropractors treat patients?

Chiropractors employ a number of protocols and techniques, with the chiropractic adjustment being the most common mode of treatment. During the adjustment the chiropractor applies controlled pressure to areas of the body like the neck and spine, to restore vertebrae and other physical structures to their proper position and movement. To perform it safely and properly, chiropractors spend many years learning and practicing these techniques.

This and other techniques represent a low-risk approach for reducing spine-related problems without drugs or surgery.

What happens during my initial visit to the chiropractor?

Dr. Austin will first assess your condition in various ways. He or she may obtain a relevant medical history from you, as well as your current health status. You may be asked to undergo certain physical tests or x-rays to provide Dr.Austin with a clear and complete understanding of your health care needs..

What results should I expect from chiropractic care?

Expectations depend on a number of factors: how long you’ve had the condition; how much it may have worsened over time; the status of your overall health; and your age. Your chiropractor will take all those into consideration and offer you a realistic estimation of what kind of relief to expect and how long it may take to achieve it.

Although there are no guarantees, most people undergoing chiropractic care successfully realize these expectations, and often faster than treatment by other means.
